May Day Ho’olaule’a is celebrated every year at NHIS. Celebrating culture, abundance, and tradition. On Saturday, May 9 2026, May Day Ho’olaule’a promises a day filled with delicious food, entertainment, and activities for all ages.
Vendors will be offering a variety of foods, as well as opportunities to support local through class fundraising booths. Most importantly, the May Day Court will be showcased, highlighting students who embody the spirit of the celebration.
In recent years, the Ho’olaule’a was held in the Stadium Parking lot and Cafe Parking lot and was run by NHIS Student Government. This year, however, the Ho’olaule’a will be hosted on the middle field and is run by the Student Ambassadors.
“We are excited to have another group organize the Ho’olaule’a that will infuse new ideas and experiences,” said Student Activities Coordinator Robin Kitsu.

Student Ambassadors consist of student representatives from the high school that are leaders from their respective academy.
“I am nervous because this is the first time that Student Ambassadors has hosted an event like this with no prior experience,” said Junior and Student Ambassador Jaylin Pablo.
Khiara Kaleiwahea is this year’s May Day Court queen and she mentions how she is most excited about her solo dance. “May Day is an opportunity I am taking to learn more about my Hawaiian culture and continue to do what I love, dancing,” said Kaleiwahea.
Pakalana Edayan Sarol-Silva is the 9th grade May Day Court princess. She is taking the initiative of being the only representative from her class. “What inspired me to join May Day Court is finally having the feeling of doing hula after not being able to since elementary. Sure it was hard, but I still had fun while managing to embrace my own culture,” said Edayan Sarol-Silva. “Knowing this, many girls should also sign up for May Day Court some other time so they too can experience what a thrill this is.”
As NHIS prepares for this year’s Ho’olaule’a, the event promises to be a memorable day of cultural pride, community spirit, and joyful celebration. Everyone is encouraged to stop by, enjoy the festivities, and support local vendors and NHIS class fundraisers.
