Although the Varsity Football Season came to an end on October 17, 2025, Varsity Quarterback Sophomore Allix Yap etched his name into the record books for Nānākuli High School Football on August 22, 2025 at their game against Castle High School, breaking the record and taking the top spot for Single Game Passing Yards.
Yap has been playing football since the age of five, starting off with flag football for Nānākuli.
“I chose to play football for my family because they put all their effort into it and that I wanna start a legacy and build something into my last name,” said Yap.
Previously this record was broken in 2015 by Nainoa Banks with 396 yards and Yap beat it by 32 yards. “To me at the moment I didn’t know until they uploaded the stats, when I found out I did I was tripping and I didn’t know if it was real or not and I was happy that I did as sophomore,” Yap said.
The game originally started out rough for him, but eventually he was able to adjust and slowly everything started to fall into place. “It just motivates me more to push and wanna strive for more cause I know I can do better than how I performed at that game,” said Yap. “The most rewarding part about it was that I broke it as a Sophomore in my second start in a varsity game.”
His parents are some of the main people who helped to get him to where he is today, forcing him to go to practice and continuously supporting him. Yap also recognizes how some of his past coaches have gotten him to where he is today. “Coach Silas Ah Sui, who helped me start football knowing that when I was young I had an arm and I could throw. He pulled me into it and helped me a lot. Coach Joe Lewis would help me train and break down more of this football stuff that I can remember and it will help me in all my games,” said Yap.
“My goal is to go to the collegiate level and hopefully make it to the NFL,” said Yap.
Yap plans to continue his journey through football. Showing off his passion, hard work, and skills to future colleges; starting by breaking a 10 year record his sophomore year.
