NPAC students listen to the announcement that the program received $10,000 from the R.I.S.E. Grant.

The Nānākuli High and Intermediate School Performing Arts Center was selected as one of 50 (out of 1000 applicants) high school theatre programs to receive $10,000 from the NBC’s R.I.S.E. (Recognizing and Inspiring Student Expression) America grant. The program is inspired by the NBC drama Rise about a high school theatre department and its effects on a small town and stars Hawaii’s own Auliʻi Cravalho.

Schools applied by submitting a video about its program and a 500 word essay on why it deserved the money and what would be done with it.

For NPAC, the money will go to offset the cost of costumes for our upcoming Shrek the Musical production and to upgrade our microphones.

We are so grateful to NBC and the Education Theatre Foundation for this honor and award.
