NHIS Track and Field Updates
The Golden Hawks have just completed the first round of OIA JV & Varsity championship challenges. A quick summary of performances follow:
At the OIA Western Division meet on Saturday, our Lady Hawks team finished in 4th place among the 11 competing schools.
The most distinguished performances were the 2 first places finishes by Caitlin “Kili” Kawaiaea in the 1500m and the 800m runs. Kili is now ranked 3rd among all (public & private) female high school athletes on Oahu. She is ranked in the top 2% of the 50 best female track athletes in Hawaii for both of her events. Currently, she is the OIA 800m/1500m runs leader. Kili also runs the mile relay.
Rayna Santiago is also ranked #4 and #10(respectively) among all high school female athletes in the 100m and 400m sprints on Oahu. Rayna also high jumps and anchors the mile relay.
Kiersten Quiocho is Oahu/State ranked and state championship eligible in the 300m hurdles. She is “top 20” ranked in the 100m hurdles and she also runs the mile relay.
The Lady Hawks mile relay is ranked 5th of all high schools on Oahu. This relay team is ranked 5th on Oahu and lowered its state championship qualifying time to 4:18.03 last Saturday.
These athletes scored points at the Western Division OIA champs meet and will compete in the Varsity OIA championship meet: Lydia Kaaloa (Shotput), Lachelle Ku (Discus), Lynold Tuiloma (Shotput & Discus), Kalei Cates (High Jump/Long Jump)
Our JV team has completed its semi-final western divisional season meet. The following athletes will move to the JV finals on Saturday April 15: Elizabeth Ofa ( Long Jump/ 200m dash), Mairussian Glushenko (100m Hurdles/300m Hurdles), Charles HanoHano (Shotput), Breven Palpallatoc (300m Hurdles)
