Are you ready to roll the dice and dive into a world of fantasy? Nānākuli High and Intermediate School’s new Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Club has quickly become a favorite for students looking to strategize, make friends, and embark on epic adventures. With a mix of creativity, storytelling, and teamwork, the club offers a unique escape from the everyday school routine and an opportunity to connect with like-minded classmates.
The Origin of the Club: A Student-Led Idea
The club owes its existence to two friends Jaimin and Nick who shared a love for D&D and wanted to bring that excitement to their classmates. They approached Kele-sensei, asking if she would be their advisor to help make their dream of a D&D club a reality. Kele-sensei was thrilled to support them, even though she hadn’t come up with the idea herself. Since then, she has been a guiding presence in the club, making sure that students have a safe and welcoming environment to explore this imaginative game.
Monthly Campaigns in the Library
Once a month, the school library transforms into a magical realm where students join campaigns, taking on roles from heroic wizards to stealthy rogues. These monthly sessions offer an immersive experience, allowing players to work together to explore mysterious lands, battle monsters, and unravel complex quests. The library’s cozy setting makes it the perfect backdrop for these imaginative journeys, where each campaign brings new challenges and triumphs.
B2 Day Meetings with Kele-sensei
In addition to the monthly campaigns, the club also holds regular meetings in Kele-sensei’s classroom on every B2 day during study hall. Here, members gather to plan strategies, learn game mechanics, and flesh out their characters’ stories. These meetings are a great time for newcomers to dive in and for experienced players to refine their skills. With guidance from Kele-sensei and club veterans, everyone gets a chance to feel prepared for the monthly campaigns.
Whether you’re a seasoned player or curious to try something new, the D&D club offers a welcoming environment for all. Each meeting is a chance to build camaraderie, develop problem-solving skills, and explore creativity. So, if you’re ready for an adventure, mark your calendar for the next B2 day or monthly library campaign and join the action at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School!
Briann Burch, a member of the D&D club said, “Participating in D&D club is a fun experience because i get to interact with new people and build upon my cooperation skills with others. We also build upon our creativity through world-building and problem-solving skills that require us to work together as a team”.
